Gamescom 2010 special // Day 2

After a good night sleep in our hotel we woke up nice and early. We arrived at the show before the doors opened. There we decided to take the side entrance because the main entrance was to crowded.

Slicing, Dicing, Rolling and Skating @ the Gamescom ’09

I immediatly thought back to last year’s 4-day trip to the Leipzig Games Convention together with Fred Prefuse when i found out last week that i won two tickets for the Gamescom in Cologne. We did think about going again earlier this year, but actually didn’t get to plan something serious. Now NG-gamer provided us with two tickets we just couldn’t resist the call to at least go and have a look. And as part of the price there where two Fairytalefights goodie bags and caricature drawings by an art director of Playlogic waiting for us when we got there. So after discussing our options and getting Fred Prefuse’s girlfriend to come along we decided on going saturday….

Gamescom 2009 // pulls in 245,000 attendees

Organizers of the Gamescom claim the five-day trade fair pulled a total of 245,000 attendees, made up of 17,000 visitors to the trade show portion, and 228,000 coming to the consumer portion. I’m working on a full report about a day at the Gamescom and it will follow later this week.

NES Controller // felt iPhone case

A pair of Brazilian product design students created this awesome looking iPhone case in the form of an old NES controller. It is made from felt and it even has real buttons where the A and B buttons are to make it look more realistic.

Need for Speed // Shift

Need for Speed: Shift is one of the next installments in the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed published by Electronic Arts. It was announced in January 2009 as part of a three-game announcement that includes Need for Speed: Nitro and Need for Speed: World Online. Need for Speed: Shift is under development by Slightly Mad Studios. Need for Speed: Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing and drifting rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses less on street racing and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers.

Need for Speed: Shift will be available on Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3, PC and PLAYSTATION®PORTABLE (PSP) as well as on Mobile and iPhone.

PsP // Holy invasion of privacy, Badman! What did i do to deserve this?

The goal of the game is clean and simple: As the God of Destruction, you must create a dungeon that is difficult and powerful enough to fend off human hero invasions. The dungeon must have a self-sustaining ecosystem, so players must strategically dig and create a dungeon with a balanced food chain. Periodically, human heroes will invade the dungeon in order to bring peace and harmony to the world, but they are your enemies. You must destroy the heroes before they capture the Overlord and take him back to the surface.

PsP // Monster Hunter, Freedom Unite

With more missions, equipment and monsters than Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (the previous game), a felyne fighter to help you fight monsters and many more hours worth of game time and promises to be one of PSP’s biggest and longest titles to date (the game never “technically” ends). You can now get rarity 10 armor and weapons. In addition, the player can now hold up to 99 of each item type in his box, store up to 20 equipment sets, eight equipment pages instead of six, and possible extension to 10 and many other new features such as the felyne hunting with you. A new type of quest, the “Marathon Quest”, will be introduced, which will enable the hunter to take on, one by one, up to 4 different monsters in one quest, as shown in the released demo. Weapons can now have purple sharpness which is above white sharpness.

PsP // Patapon 2

Patapon 2 is a video game by Sony. It is a sequel to Patapon. It hosts a four player (adhoc/gamesharing) multiplayer mode. The story continues from the previous Patapon game where in the boat the Patapon have constructed has been completed and they have set sail for new lands. On their way there, they are attacked by a kraken who easily defeats them and sends the Patapon into the ocean to be washed ashore in a strange new land where they come up against another tribe called the Karmen. Now it is a battle to defeat the Karmen and find out who is their true enemy.

iPhone, iPod Touch // Metal Gear Solid Touch

Metal Gear Solid Touch is a third-person shooter video game for iPhone and iPod Touch developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami worldwide. The player plays through several missions based on stages from Metal Gear Solid 4, each introduced by brief text summarising the story so far. The player moves their finger across the screen to aim, tapping to fire, and moving their fingers together or apart to zoom in or out with a sniper rifle, removing their fingers from the screen to get behind cover and avoid enemy fire. Gako and Kerotan statues can be shot to gain health and weaponry such as rocket launchers.
